Season's Greetings Tennessee HOSA!
December has been a busy month for chapters across the state as many have been holding toy drives and coat drives for those less fortunate in their own communities. Keep up the great work everyone! 2012 is coming to a close, which
means there are numerous deadlines approaching. Make sure to get your scholarship and potential state officer candidate applications in by the end of this month.
Regional competitions are just around the corner, and the State Leadership Conference is not too far off either. Your Executive Council has been working hard to prepare for these events, and we have some surprises in store for you that you will not want to miss. We encourage you to spend some of your time off from school preparing for your competitions, so when the time comes for you to compete, you will be able to make your chapters proud. We hope that everyone did well on their exams and that everyone has a wonderful time during their time off from school.
2012-2013 Tennessee HOSA Executive Council
Hello TN HOSA!
November has been an exciting month for your state officer team as well as for all the members of TN HOSA! Members
and Chapters across the state and nation participated in National HOSA week. Some activities conducted by chapters include doing canned food drives for local shelters, promoting awareness of the mission of HOSA in the community,
and thanking members of the Health Care Community for the work that they do.
The executive council facilitated the St. Thomas Health Symposium and conducted the TN HOSA State Conference Planning Meeting! State conference is less than one hundred days away, and regional conferences are approaching even sooner than that! It truly is an exciting time of year for HOSA members.
With that in mind, remember to be very intentional about goals during this time, especially for the senior members. Deadlines for scholarship applications, college applications, and assignments for school are right around the corner, as well as Final exams for many members, regional competitions, and many other HOSA activities! With so many things going on, it is quite easy for one to be overwhelmed.
Set aside time to accomplish goals, and work diligently to accomplish those goals. Be intentional. Schedule time every
evening to spend on homework, accounting for fluctuations in the amount of homework from night to night. You do not have to work all evening to finish your homework if you diligently work to finish each task and do not allow yourself to be distracted.
Figure out what works for you. If you find that you forget what Homework you need to do when the evening arrives, make yourself a to-do list. If you constantly miss deadlines for applications and assignments, use your phone's calendar and Google Calendars to remind yourself of important deadlines.
With so much going on, it easy to be overwhelmed. Remember to find time for yourself in all of the activity. Schedule time to go for a run. Read a book. Hang out with friends. Enjoy
Lastly, do not forget that your State officer team is here
for you! If you have any suggestions for state conference, such as an idea for
a fun night activity, please do not hesitate to contact us with your
Have a happy holiday season!
October has been an exciting month for Tennessee HOSA! With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, members have actively been supporting the cause. Not only are members raising awareness but they are participating in countless walks and fund raising opportunities. These include but are not limited to; Race for the Cure, Relay for Life, selling shirts, and taking up donations.
Members are also becoming more involved in their communities during the Halloween season. They are organizing events such as “Reverse-Trick-Or-Treat,” where they are taking approved treats to the hospital and distributing them to the patients. The children in the units enjoy it and find the costumes comical.
As November is approaching the officer team will be attending a state planning meeting, where they will work hard to plan an exciting state conference. All TN HOSA members are strongly encouraged to send the TN HOSA State Officers their ideas and suggestions. We want the competition to be a great experience for everyone who attends!
Hello Tennessee HOSA!
We hope that you all have had a great summer and are excited to start back to school! Your state officers have been working very hard this summer to make sure that Tennessee HOSA will be at its best this
To start things off the state officers met in Lebanon, TN for their first meeting. The weekend consisted of leadership training and getting to know each other. We also worked on our goals and developed our leadership philosophy. That week we met with the Board of Directors and discussed the upcoming year. TN added a new member to the team that week. Ms. Amanda Hodges who is the Career and Technical Education Specialist to TSA & HOSA. With her by our side, we believe TN HOSA is going to grow even more.
In June your executive council traveled to Orlando, Florida for the National Leadership Conference. It was a great time for
networking, competing, and of course gaining new leadership skills, so we can better serve you! Again, we would like to say congratulations to all the winners. Tennessee did a fantastic job and we couldn’t be prouder. This year at the NLC Tennessee was greatly represented, and it was seen by all! TN HOSA was awarded as The Most Professional State, the state to raise the most money for the Juvenile Diabeties Research Foundation, and of course we were recognized as
one of the states with a membership increase. Thank you to all the advisors and parents who made this possible!
There are a lot of exciting things that will be going on with TN HOSA this year and we encourage you to stay updated by checking the blog, FaceBook, and Twitter! Check back to see when Camp Clements will be scheduled!
